We are incredibly proud to announce that Haochen Wang, one of our outstanding students, has been named one of this year's 13 Dutch Master's laureates for the Unilever Research Prize! This annual recognition highlights exceptional research that contributes to a sustainable, fair, and healthy future.
Haochen's award honors his Master's thesis focusing on the innovative Vacuum-Assisted Delivery (VAD) Training Phantom. In academia, we understand that years of study are a profound investment, a hopeful journey where complex knowledge can lead to meaningful benefits for humanity. Haochen's thesis embodies that aspiration.
His work addresses a significant gap in global maternal care by developing a highly realistic yet low-cost VAD training tool. With materials costing only about €55, the goal is to make high-quality, anatomically accurate training accessible, especially in low-resource settings.
Receiving the Unilever Research Prize is an immense encouragement and a validation of the time and effort invested. It serves as a testament that Haochen's contributions can play a part in saving lives and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Haochen’s supportive supervisors: Theo Wiggers, Jenny Dankelman, Dieuwertje Drexhage, and Roos Marieke Oosting; to LAYCO and Incision for their invaluable support; and to TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering for inspiring the belief in science’s potential to create impactful change.
