We are glad to share that Supertrends recently interviewed one of our former students, Ioana Drilea, about her innovative project, the EasyTower. This mobile surgical unit is designed to improve access to laparoscopic surgery in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), addressing the urgent need for effective medical solutions in these regions.

Key Highlights from the Interview:
In the interview, Ioana shared her insights into the challenges faced in surgical care, particularly the high rates of medical equipment waste due to unsuitable technologies. She discussed how EasyTower integrates essential laparoscopic devices into a single, user-friendly system that can operate even during power outages.
Ioana emphasized the importance of designing equipment that is not only effective but also adaptable to local conditions. By utilizing locally sourced materials and ensuring that the unit can be easily repaired, EasyTower promotes sustainability and reduces reliance on costly imports.
We are proud of Ioana’s achievements and her commitment to making a difference in global health. Her work exemplifies the innovative spirit nurtured at the TU Delft Biomedical Engineering for Global Health Lab.
