Roos highlighted the reality that many low- and middle-income countries face significant barriers in accessing essential medical equipment. These challenges—ranging from inadequate infrastructure and fragile supply chains to a lack of training and limited awareness—underscore the urgent need for context-specific solutions.

Through real-world examples, Roos emphasized how biomedical engineers can make a tangible impact by designing and implementing technologies tailored to the environments they are meant to serve. Her message was clear: innovation must be inclusive and globally minded.

The session quickly evolved into a lively and interactive discussion. Attendees from diverse backgrounds posed thoughtful questions, particularly around the responsibilities and opportunities for Dutch hospitals and medical device companies. How can they contribute more meaningfully to global health equity? What partnerships or policy changes are needed to support sustainable impact?

Roos’s talk shed light on pressing global issues, reminding everyone that technical medicine has the power to bridge gaps and transform lives far beyond national borders.
